Commerical Optics

Optical measuring systems and 3D measuring systems are expected to consistently deliver accurate and precise measurements. As such, internal parts and components in these devices must be reliable and manufactured to extremely tight tolerances. Parts that are not designed to the required specifications can result in the development of excessive measurement tolerances, which can increase over time and lead to significant reading errors.

Backed by our team’s metal fabrication expertise and our facility’s state-of-the-art equipment, Peerless Precision Inc. machines a wide range of high-quality parts for various types of optical measuring equipment to tolerances within 0.0001 to 0.000005 inches. Our team has a sound understanding of the requirements of the optics industry and oversees each step of the manufacturing process to ensure that each part is machined to perfection.

Drawing on over 40 years of custom metal fabrication experience, our technical experts design and manufacture optical measuring equipment parts of any shape or complexity. For more unique devices, we partner closely with our customers to develop high-quality custom solutions to meet their specific needs.

Applications

At Peerless Precision Inc., our optical equipment parts can be used for a multitude of applications. Additional features such as bevels, counterbores, and slots can be machined into products to meet required design specifications. Our products can be incorporated in several optical measuring devices, including:

  • Coordinate measuring machines (CMMs)
  • Microscopes
  • Telescopes
  • Cameras
  • Optical comparators
  • Laser systems

Materials

In the optical measuring and metrology industry, manufacturing flaws in even the smallest machined part can be extremely detrimental to the operation of the measuring device.

All components, from the device housing to the base plate, must be constructed from materials that can provide sufficient stability to achieve consistent and accurate results. For instance, the frames of coordinate measuring machines are typically built from various types of aluminum alloys and ceramics to increase the stiffness of the apparatus in the Z-axis direction for scanning applications.

Peerless Precision Inc. often employs the following materials for optical industry projects:

  • Stainless steel
  • Brass
  • Carbides
  • G-10 high-pressure fiberglass laminate
  • Rulon
  • Ryton

Quality and Industry Standards

At Peerless Precision, we are committed to fabricating precision parts that achieve the highest level of precision within optical measuring equipment applications. Our machining experts understand that the slightest error can have disastrous consequences.

Our ISO 9001:2015 certified quality management procedures ensure that each product is manufactured to the highest quality standards. Similarly, our solutions are specifically designed to enable optical measuring devices to achieve certification with various measuring and calibration standards such as ISO/IEC 17025 and NIST.

Partnering with Peerless Precision

Peerless Precision Inc.’s CNC and finishing services are complemented by our broad range of secondary machining services such as burring, blasting, honing, lapping, grinding and assembly.

We can handle any production run from low volume prototypes to mass-produced blanket orders. Lead times for our optical solutions range from 10 to 12 weeks, with expedited and Just in Time (JIT) options available for urgent situations.
